Gulliver's Travels is the most famous work of the Irish writer, Anglican priest and politician Jonathan Swift. A naive do-gooder, the ship's doctor Gulliver goes on a journey to return home as a disillusioned misanthrope at the end of his fantastic adventures. The mere shift in scale in Lilliput, the land of the dwarves, and Brobdingnag, the land of the giants, makes all human activity ridiculous. While in Lilliput he can pull an entire war fleet across the sea with one hand and his appetite threatens to cause a famine, he has to fear for his life among the giants themselves as a toy in the hand of an infant.
