Hauff: Märchen
Wilhelm Hauff (1802 - 1827) was born in Stuttgart and soon after his studies of theology and philosophy in Thuringia he received credit for his book "Lichtenstein", the first German historical novel. But actually he came to be known through his fairytales which were published in three almanacs from 1826 to 1828 as well as his folk songs. Hauff combines romantic and fantastic elements with realism and documentary as well as satirical parts. Who does not know fairytales such as "The story of Kalif Storch", "The cold heart" or "The Story of Little Mook"?
