These unusual napkins, which quote the Nativity from, the Gospel According to Luke in the New Testament, are a real eye-catcher on the dinner table. Reading about the birth of Baby Jesus in Bethlehem we begin to feel some of the true meaning of Christmas: light and warmth, hope and joy, love and comfort.

The Gutenberg charity shop has proved an invaluable aid to museum
funding for over 20 years. Each article sold includes a donation which

volunteers which helps us to keep costs down. You may also make a donation without buying anything.
Gutenberg Bible, II/?: Lucas
A traditional and meaningful gem: This is the Christmas story as related by St Luke the Evangelist from one of the most precious books in the world: the first printed Bible created by Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz in c. 1450-1455.
Our Bible prints are produced at the Gutenberg Museum in their original format on historical machines. Unlike Gutenberg we print the individual pages in three colours, with red and blue display type, headers and beginnings of lines and the outlines of the ornamentation, lending even our uncoloured pages a very decorative appearance. The Bible page is available as a three-colour press print and in a hand-coloured and a gold leaf version. Applying the fine, raised gilt decoration is a skill which very few artists still master. Here, a base material is applied to the paper layer by layer in an elaborate and time-consuming process to form a platform for the 22-carat gold leaf.
