The foreign rule of the Austrians in Switzerland provoked the self-defence of the confederates who have led a life of naive-idyllic perception so far, not exposed to the altering power of policy but only to the cycle of nature. Through the famous apple shot Wilhelm Tell, the protagonist of the drama, is forced to risk the life of his child. In this way he is jolted from his idyllic believe and displaced into brutal reality.
