Christian Morgenstern (1871 - 1914) came from an creative family. His father and grandfather were reputable landscape painters but he was to become a lawyer at his own father's desire. Fortunately he choose to become a writer and is well-known today especially for his comical poetry despite his numerous other works. His poems unfold a kind but subtle humour which is emphasised by his language. The little book in our new lyrical series worships this jongleur and magician of the German language with good reason.

For some time even homeless his performance in the Munich pub Simplicimus was the turning point of his life. As a cabaret artist, writer and painter he found the tribute he was looking for and a little income however only until the Nazis forbade him.
