Product Information
Exlibris are an expression of love for printed books
Small printed graphic works of art, the bookplates, are the focus of the second volume in the series "Hidden Treasures of the Gutenberg Museum". Extensive donations, gifts and purchases have contributed to the development and growth of the world-famous ex-libris collection. Its creation is due to the inexhaustible ingenuity and artistic mastery of often famous hands. The simple  bookplates were all about utility; their artistic beauty made them coveted collector's items. In each case, every bookplate has its own history.

This book provides an overview of both utilitarian and collectible exlibris and illustrates these 'two lives' of the ex-libris. It also aims to incorporate contemporary trends in the future, to preserve the appreciation of those who collect ex libris and those who design them and to intensify contacts in order to maintain the outstanding position of the Gutenberg Museum's collection in international comparison.
