Eristic Dialectic by Arthur Schopenhauer
Dialectical tricks to be right in a discussion
"Eristic dialectic is the art of disputing, and disputing in such a way that one is right, that is, per fas et nefas. For one can objectively be right in the matter itself and yet be wrong in the eyes of the supporters, sometimes even in one's own. For when the opponent refutes my evidence, and this is considered to be a refutation of the claim itself, for which there may be other evidence; in which case, of course, for the opponent the relationship is reversed: he is right, in the case of objective injustice. So the objective truth of a sentence and its validity in the approval of the disputants and listeners are two different things."
