The World's Writing Systems in Chronological and Geographical Order
This four colour silkscreen poster presents one typographic reference glyph for all 293 known writing systems in the world, living or historical, in chronological and geographical order. It is the first step of the Missing Scripts Project, a long-term initiative that aims to identify writing systems which are not yet encoded in the Unicode standard.
Linguistic and typographic research was done by Atelier National de Recherche Typographique (ANRT), Nancy, France; Institut Designlabor Gutenberg (IDG), Hochschule Mainz, Germany; and Script Encoding Initiative (SEI), Department of Linguistics, Berkeley, USA.
A four colour code indicates living / historical scripts and Unicode encoded / not yet encoded scripts.
