Maria Theresia was born on 13th May 1717. In 1740, with only 23 years she became regent of Austria, Hungary and Bohemia. 1745 she got her husband crowned as the roman-german emperor and she became empress. Without any military or political talent worth mentioning, the emperor devoted himself above all to the financial security of the imperial family, in which he was very successful. Maria Theresa conducted the affairs of government of the Monarchy alone. Like every wife of an emperor, she was titled empress, although not crowned herself.

Wihelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller

Schiller formed his play from the historical events taking place in the Waldgaststätte between 1291 and 1315 as well as the Nordic myth of the apple shot. The foreign rule of the Austrians in Switzerland provoked the self-defence of the confederates who have led a life of naive-idyllic perception so far, not exposed to the altering power of policy but only to the cycle of nature. Through the famous apple shot Wilhelm Tell, the protagonist of the drama, is forced to risk the life of his child. In this way he is jolted from his idyllic believe and displaced into brutal reality.
