Moving Types - Letters in Motion
Moving Types - Letters in Motion
Media Exhibition Gutenberg-Museum Mainz 2013. (2nd revised edition)
The catalogue "Moving Types - Letters in Motion" documents an exhibition of the same title about the history of animated letters. This exhibition was realized by the artistic/scientific directors of the Centre for Time-based Design (Mainz / Schwäbisch Gmünd) in cooperation with the Gutenberg-Museum in Mainz.
In eight chapters the reader is led into the world of films, brands, and media of the past 100 years. The catalogue shows right up to the internet age what can be done with letters, how they can become art and get their own personalities, or become enjoyable sources of information in the modern world of media. It contains among other things the "habillages" of the Arte (TV network) theme nights, music videos from Bob Dylan to Soko, TV logos of RTL, Arte, and Al Jazeera, the colourful brand territory of the Oscar-winning motion picture "Logorama", and the world of advertising of Mercedes and Nike.
The catalogue also makes media history with its built-in cinema. More than 80 film clips can be loaded and watched via QR tags and a tablet PC, a smartphone or a suitable mobile phone.
