A traditional and meaningful gem: This is the Christmas story as related by St Luke the Evangelist from one of the most precious books in the world: the first printed Bible created by Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz in c. 1450-1455.
Production
Our Bible prints are produced at the Gutenberg Museum in their original format on historical machines. Unlike Gutenberg we print the individual pages in three colours, with red and blue display type, headers and beginnings of lines and the outlines of the ornamentation, lending even our uncoloured pages a very decorative appearance. The Bible page is available as a three-colour press print and in a hand-coloured and a gold leaf version. Applying the fine, raised gilt decoration is a skill which very few artists still master. Here, a base material is applied to the paper layer by layer in an elaborate and time-consuming process to form a platform for the 22-carat gold leaf.

The Gutenberg Bible is widely recognized as Europe’s first printed book, a book that forever changed the world. However, despite its initial impact, fame was fleeting: for the better part of three centuries the Bible was virtually forgotten; only after two centuries of tenacious and contentious scholarship did it attain its iconic status as a monument of human invention. Gulliver's Travels is the most famous work of the Irish writer, Anglican priest and politician Jonathan Swift. A naive do-gooder, the ship's doctor Gulliver goes on a journey to return home as a disillusioned misanthrope at the end of his fantastic adventures. The mere shift in scale in Lilliput, the land of the dwarves, and Brobdingnag, the land of the giants, makes all human activity ridiculous. While in Lilliput he can pull an entire war fleet across the sea with one hand and his appetite threatens to cause a famine, he has to fear for his life among the giants themselves as a toy in the hand of an infant.

The London lawyer Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania at the request of Count Dracula, as he has previously purchased a house in London and now wants to have the purchase and the forthcoming passage clarified by his lawyer. On the outward journey Harker notices some strange things. A local resident gives Harker a rosary to protect him. The first few days pass quietly but Harker is asked not to enter some rooms and promises to stick to it. He notices that the count has no reflection in the mirror and gets a greedy expression at the sight of blood, when he cuts himself while shaving. Soon the count becomes eerie for the young Englishman, his outward appearance alone is strange: long, very white, pointed teeth and striking red lips.
