Flexibility and foresight: these were the revolutionary characteristics of the movable type invented by Johannes Gutenberg. His invention first enabled knowledge to be disseminated to a broader public, laying the foundations for all further developments of the media as we know it today. Honouring Gutenberg's genius has been the aim of the museum right from the outset. Ca. 600 years after the birth of Gutenberg a number of creative minds with a view to the future again came together to form a viable medium for their ideas: the Förderverein Gutenberg e.V. (Gutenberg Sponsorship Association). Initially founded to raise the necessary capital for the desperately-needed restoration and extension of the museum building, the Association now has a number of new targets which have come close to being reached thanks to the dedicated work of all of its members and sponsors.
